Čutkovská dolina belongs to the most popular and most accessible gateways to the Veľká Fatra mountain range. It is located right on the edge of the town of Ružomberok and combines family relaxation, traditional Liptov gastronomy and mountain nature.

Main attractions and points of interest

Educational trail "Known – unknown Čutkovská dolina"

• It runs the entire length of the valley (approx. 6.1 km one way) alongside the Čutkovo stream.
• Along the route there are information boards, rest benches, springs and wooden bridges.
• The trail ends at the head of the valley at the Čutkovský kaňon (Za Dielom gorge).

Waterfalls and gorges

• Jelení vodopád: A waterfall approximately 24 meters high in a side ravine, accessible via wooden walkways and stairs.
• Jamišný vodopád: A smaller but picturesque waterfall (approx. 12 m) in another side gorge.

• Tiesňava Za Dielom: A rocky gorge 68 meters long with cascades and a wild stream.

Area at the beginning of the valley (suitable for families with children)

• Koliba u dobrého pastiera: Complex of traditional wooden houses offering Liptov cuisine, a bakery, a brewery, and a chapel.

• Detský zábavný park Obrovo: Area thematically dedicated to the giant Čutko with climbing frames, trampolines, archery, and a zip-line course.
• Rybník a zvieracia obora: Opportunity for fishing, a mini-zoo with domestic animals and wild boars.

Brown trout

An original and iconic species of salmonid fish of Slovak mountain and sub-mountain streams. It is a perfect bioindicator of water purity.

 Living indicator of purity: It requires exceptionally clean, cold and oxygen-rich flowing water; when pollution occurs or oxygen levels drop, it quickly disappears from rivers.

 Distinctive mimicry: Olive-brown back with a light belly and typical red and black spots with white edges.

⚡ Lightning-fast predator: From hiding spots under roots and stones, it darts out at flying insects, larvae, small crustaceans, and smaller fish with incredible agility.

 Strength in the current: Thanks to its streamlined body and strong tail, it can withstand wild mountain currents.

European grayling

An elegant salmonid fish inhabiting the submontane zones of clean rivers (grayling zone), typical of streams such as the Váh, Orava, or Belá. It is prized by sport anglers especially for its wariness and elegance.

 Iconic dorsal fin: A strikingly tall and long dorsal fin resembling a colorful flag, dotted with purple and dark spots, serving males during spawning.

 Herbal scent: The species name derives from a subtle scent reminiscent of thyme, which a freshly caught fish naturally emits.

️ Tear-shaped eye: It has a distinctive pupil elongated into a forward-pointing teardrop shape, giving it excellent vision for hunting small insects on the surface.

練 King of fly fishing: It feeds mainly on aquatic insect larvae and adult mayflies collected from the water surface with legendary delicacy and precision.

European bitterling

A small, legally protected cyprinid fish inhabiting clean, cold, oxygen-rich mountain streams of the trout zone. Together with the brown trout, it is one of the native inhabitants of the highest-altitude watercourses in Slovakia.

 Male wedding dress: During the spawning season (May – June), males change color to bright green to turquoise with fiery red belly, throat, and white spawning tubercles on the head.

 Life in schools: The species lives in numerous communities in shallows and quieter corners of streams, where it finds shelter from strong currents and predators.

 Important link in the ecosystem: It feeds mainly on small aquatic insects, their larvae, algae, and fallen terrestrial insects, while itself serving as natural food for trout.

 Sensitive bioindicator: It is extremely vulnerable to riverbed regulation, pollution and drying up of springs, which is why it is classified as a protected species of national importance in Slovakia.

Striped Ruffe

An inconspicuous, strictly protected benthic fish of the mountain and sub-mountain streams of Kysuce, Orava, Liptov and Turiec. It is one of our native species adapted to life exclusively on the stony bottom of the cleanest watercourses.

直 Life without a swim bladder: It has no developed gas bladder, so it does not swim smoothly in the water, but moves with typical short hops along the bottom between rocks.

 Wide head and sucker fins: It has a flattened massive head with high-set eyes and extremely wide fan-shaped pectoral fins, with which it braces against strong currents.

煉 Striped fins: It differs from the related white-finned gudgeon by distinct transverse dark stripes on the pelvic fins, which extend all the way to their base.

 Species of European importance: Protected within the Natura 2000 network; it is extremely sensitive to water pollution, damming of streams with barriers, and silting of gravel bottoms with mud.

Connection with Hrabovská dolina

• An easy trail leads over the forest ridge  , which connects Čutkovská dolina with Hrabovo (cable car to Malinô Brdo, water reservoir, rope park). This route is suitable for cyclists and tourists, and along the way we encounter lost giant items such as a chair, glasses or binoculars.
