Hoblík

Hoblík Hill

Are you tired of overcrowded hiking trails and looking for something near Žilina that will awaken the true explorer in you? Meet the peak Hoblík, an unmistakable rock landmark in the Lúčanská part of Malá Fatra, which proudly rises directly above the village of Višňové.

This peak got its name from its typical, sharply beveled shape, which really resembles a carpenter's plane. Although its height does not place it among the true giants, the ascent is guaranteed to get your blood pumping. You won't find any smooth, marked "tourist highway" here, but a steep and wild forest trail.

Even if you just set out for a walk into the Višňové Valley, you still have the feeling that this distinctive hill is watching you. It will keep looking down at you and eventually convince you to go and see its summit. The Hoblík (933 m above sea level) is an unassuming but naturally extremely valuable neighbor of the more famous Polom.

Why should you conquer it?

  • Hiking challenge: The ascent is quite steep, rocky in many places, and will test your fitness. It's an ideal workout with a touch of real mountain adventure.
  • Panoramic views: When you climb up and stand on the edge rock ledges, a fantastic and unobstructed view of the Žilina Basin opens up before you, with the Lietava Castle looming in the distance and the majestic ridges of the Malá Fatra.
  • Climbing paradise: The rocks of Hoblík and the adjacent Višňovská valley are a cult and extremely popular spot for local sport climbers. On the way up, you might catch a glimpse of suspended “spiders” in action on the steep walls.
