Višňovská dolina

Višňovská dolina is located approximately 10 km from Žilina and is nestled in the mountains Lúčanská Fatra. It is a popular destination for its climbing terrains, including the challenging route "Panter 8b+". At the top of Hoblík (933.6 m above sea level) there is a via ferrata. Several sources of drinking water spring up in the vicinity of the valley, with the spring directly in the village of Višňové being a sought-after spot for local residents.

Višňovská dolina offers fire pits that you can use for grilling – however, do not forget that fires may only be lit in designated public places. A forest road with a gentle incline will lead you to the Chats under Holý diel, where you will find benches, a fire pit, and a spring with drinking water.

From this place, a tourist trail leads to Minčol (1,346 m above sea level), which is also popular thanks to the traditional New Year's Eve ascent. Despite the beautiful surroundings, you should expect timber harvesting, so be cautious during your walk.

Access and transport

By car: From Žilina towards Rosina and Višňové. The parking lot is located at the end of the village of Višňové near the water reservoir. On weekends it tends to fill up quickly.
By bus (SAD): Suburban line Žilina – Višňové, final stop “Višňové, konečná”. From there, it is approximately a 10-minute walk to the mouth of the valley.

Tourist and sports options

Walk: A paved path along the Rosinka stream, suitable even for families with strollers.
Hoblík (934 m above sea level): A peak with an unofficial via ferrata and beautiful views of the basin.
Climbing: A significant area with challenging limestone routes.
Minčol: A blue tourist trail leading all the way to the main peak of the Lúčanská Fatra.

There are no refreshment stands or restaurants in the valley – stock up in advance.
In the area of the D1 highway tunnel construction, respect traffic restrictions.
The caves in the valley are not open to the public.

Tip: The New Year's Eve ascent of Minčol is a very popular community event among locals, where at the chalets near the old ski lift you can taste cabbage soup or warm up with mulled wine.
